Chaslands, Catlins, New Zealand
|
Sealers and whalers arrived from Australia early on in New Zealand’s history and named parts of the countryside. Chaslands Mistake on the Southern Scenic Route is one of these places. In the 1820’s the legendary whaler Thomas Chaseland so named the area after he made the “mistake” of delaying the slaughter of a herd of seals in the evening and returning the next morning to find not one in sight |
