Roxburgh, Central Otago, New Zealand


Following the main highway from Dunedin to Central Otago you will pass through the lovely small town of Roxburgh,
located on the mighty Clutha River.


With a population of about 750 this once thriving goldmining town is now
most well know for its spectacular fruit orchards.
 The fruit season runs from November to March.
 Apples, cherries, and apricots are just some of the stone fruits produced here
 and are a spectacular sight to behold in spring with the valley in full blossom and
again in Autumn with beautiful golden – red hues.
 The roadside fruit stalls are well worth a visit during the summer!


The Roxburgh Dam built in the 1950’s offers wonderful fishing with brown trout,
rainbow trout and salmon being able to be caught all year round.

The beautiful mountain ranges that dominate the Roxburgh horizon,
the Old Man Range and Mount Benger are often laden with snow in the winter months creating a spectacular sight.

a range of accommodation and a host of attractions

Roxburgh is also home to the world famous Jimmy’s Pies
(world famous in NZ anyway!). 
The pie shop is well worth the stop with all manner of delectable NZ pies on offer You just simply can’t bypass this New Zealand tradition.
