Matai is a very small settlement of only half a dozen houses on the
inland route 7, halfway between Greymouth and Reefton.


Matai is located in a peaceful part of the Grey Valley,
originally a west coast logging area,
now a quiet  river valley dominated by peaceful dairy cows
 grazing the green pastures.
