 Lake Brunner is famous for its fishing and is located 31 kilometres inland from Greymouth. Moana is a small settlement at the edge of Lake Brunner set amidst a scenic backdrop of the Southern Alps and native forests.
Lake Brunner and surrounding rivers and streams have some of the best Brown Trout fishing in the South Island, with year round fishing on the lake and some rivers. You can hire fishing tackle and get fishing licences in Moana. Fishing guides are also available.

There are also numerous scenic and historic bushwalks around the lake that take in the region’s gold mining and timber milling history; picnic areas and abundant bird life, as well as boating and water sports and scenic lake tours.
At Moana you will find a world renowned pottery making domestic pottery and sculptural works.

Lake Brunner is a fabulous location for a family holiday ands is one of the West Coast’s fastest growing tourist destinations. The Tranz Alpine train stops at Moana and it is possible to disembark here and enjoy a three hour stopover or stay a few days before heading on to Greymouth and beyond.
