Balfour Southern Coast New Zealand

Balfour, New Zealand

Balfour is a fisherman’s paradise with the nearby Mataura River
offering arguably one of the best trout fishing rivers in New Zealand.

Historically Balfour was a railway town with grain and wool production being the towns major industry.

A Lime Works was also opened in Balfour and is still operating today supplying lime to nearby farmers.

A Dairy Factory was opened in 1910.  This has since been converted to a residential home.
Today farming still dominates this community with many deer farms as well as dairy and sheep.
