Oamaru/Timaru Area

Oamaru

Moeraki Boulders

Travelling between Dunedin and Oamaru you will never forget the magnificently formed Moeraki boulders laying on the beach like Kumera (sweet potatoes) lost from a Maori Waka, as the legend implies.

Not far away, in Moeraki itself, the smell of fresh fish cooked at Fleurs Place greats you on arrival.

Oamaru Old Town

Oamaru with its magnificent Oamaru Stone (kind of limestone) buildings, does itself proud on their conservation efforts undertaken to preserve all this history that started in Victorian times. Within walking distance the little Blue Penguins thrive on seafood and make their nests on the grassy shores.
