Kurow is a small town situated at the junction of the Waitaki and Hakataramea Rivers and has twin bridges across these rivers.
The Waitaki river which runs from Kurow to the sea, is one of New Zealand's best jet boating rivers and is also great for canoeing.
Here you will also find good trout fishing in both rivers and also the lakes.
Visit the hydro dams in the area. Cross over the Aviemore dam to access a scenic drive up to the Benmore dam.
Pre-European Māori cave paintings can be found near Kurow, close to Duntroon.
Around Kurow there are fruit orchards and vineyards of Pinot Noir are being planted in the limestone soils.
