on the main highway, the artists retreat is located in a rural setting
with stunning views over farmlands from the mountains to the sea
that will take your breath away.
Wake up to bird songs including tuis and bellbirds
and the distant sound of the ocean.

Many old buildings change uses over the course of their lives, but not many "new" old buildings.
In January 2000 we started building the artists retreat as a gallery downstairs and living space upstairs.
We incorporated as much recycled materials as we could. It had character right away.
We enjoyed living there for around 2 1/2 years until we moved into our new house and then upstairs became Karen’s studio.
From there she painted, started art lessons and eventually began to take weekend workshops.
The little "old" building perched on the hill was moving with the times.
In November 2008 we shifted the Gallery & Studio into another building on our property
and the Artists Retreat was starting another life....Self contained holiday accommodation.

The Artists Retreat has two double bedrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs.
Both bedrooms have queen sized beds and stunning elevated views of Kaikoura.
There is also another bedroom downstairs with two single beds.
The Artists Retreat can accommodate one or two couples or a family.
The artists retreat is completely self contained and we supply all bedding and linen.
There is coffee, tea milk etc. supplied for your 1st nights stay.
Kaikoura, with all the shops needed, including three supermarkets is only a few minutes away.

Directions
Kaikoura is approximately two and a half hours by road north
of Christchurch and two hours south of the ferry terminal at Picton.
The train trip to Kaikoura from Christchurch or Picton is
extremely scenic and times are similar.
