Rakiura Retreat
Warm and welcoming, nestled in peaceful gardens and amongst native bush,
Rakiura Retreat provides a comfortable and restful place to stay
during your visit to Stewart Island. 
This top location offers breathtaking sea views over Halfmoon Bay
and last year we completed a safe walking track down to the Braggs Bay beach below.

Our one and two bedroom units are self contained
with full kitchen facilities and large lounge.
We have comfortable king-size beds which can be separated into singles. 
We can sleep 3 - 7 people per unit and up to 22 people for that organized weekend.

It is specially suited to those who love walking and want the bush
the birds and the views with access to several beaches.
  You can walk to town in 20 minutes or use our complimentary bikes and cars
or experienced riders can hire our scooters.

Central heating and many of the small conveniences of home are provided for your comfort.
All units have phone, television, DVD players, alarm clock/radios, hair dryers,
electric blankets and hotties.

We can cater for your breakfast, with cereal, fruit and toast for $8.50 per head
or $15 for the two of you.
Lunches and gourmet picnic hampers can be purchased locally
for a day out exploring or relaxing.
Reservations can be made for evening dining.
Catering can be provided for groups by arrangement.

Other services include access  to Broadband through wireless,
and BBQ to use on a deck overlooking the bay with seating and tables. .

We offer: 2 one Bedroom units, 2 two Bedroom units
There are two extra singles in each lounge if required and fold up beds available.
 
We have those little extras that make your stay memorable like a picnic backpack with a rug
or fold up chairs for the beach, games and puzzles for children or quiet days.

We provide you with tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits.
We particularly want to cater for families and have invested in car seats for children,
bike seats, portacot, cot and highchairs. 
Our showers have chubbs suitable for bathing young ones.

Groceries for self-catering can be ordered by emailing us at

and we pick them up for you when you arrive.


Transfers can be arranged for your arrival and departure.
Cost NZ$15-20 total each way up to 4 people.
Rental cars can be ordered for you also.
