Bay Motel is the perfect accommodation for all, from spacious apartments and honeymoon suite to lovely studios and family units with beautiful views of Halfmoon Bay and glowing sunrises. We are situated within walking distance of all amenitities and activities.
Our modern facilities are self-contained and serviced, with central heating for the winter travellers.

Our Motel complex incorporates 10 studio units, a one-bedroom unit, a popular two-bedroom family unit and two spacious apartments. Eight of the units and Apartment 1 have fantastic views of Halfmoon Bay, while the others have views of bush-clad hills and the township. The Honeymoon Suite with spa bath has the best view over Halfmoon Bay and has a private deck.

Each self-contained unit has:

First class furnishings with top of the range queen and single beds.
Unrestricted individually controlled radiator heating.
Cooking facilities, fridge and microwave.

Apartment 1 has 2 bedrooms with queen in each.
Apartment 2 has 2 bedrooms with king bed and 2 single beds and is wheelchair friendly.
Both apartments have large decks with BBQ, private laundries, fully fitted kitchens and large lounge/dining areas.
The apartments may be internally opened to form one large house for families and groups.
On cooler days, we will turn the heaters on before you arrive, so rooms will be warm and cosy on your arrival!

New Zealand's third island and home to the new Rakiura National Park,
which covers the majority of the island.

Stewart Island is also often called "Home of the Kiwi",
as it is the only place in New Zealand where kiwi can be viewed in their natural habitat.

The Bay Motel is situated in the heart of Halfmoon Bay (or Oban), the only township on Stewart Island with a population of fewer than 400 and is only a short 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal, airline depot, shops, restaurants.

Stewart Island, New Zealand's third largest island, is located at the bottom of the South Island.
It is easily accessible by ferry (1 hour from Bluff) or small aircraft (20 minutes from Invercargill).
