Glenorchy is another must do whilst you are in Queenstown.
This tiny township, which lies at the head of Lake Wakatipu,
is one of New Zealand’s last bastions of true paradise.
This remote township could only be reached by the steamboat “Earnsleugh” in the past,
which delivered both passengers and goods down the Lake Wakatipu
from Queenstown until as late as the 1950’s.
But today it can easily be reached by road, which has been carved out
along the side of the Lake.
The drive is one of the most scenic in the South Island!

For those wanting to do a spot of tramping head around the top of the Lake through a place known as Paradise!
and on to the tiny and remote Kinloch to the start of the Routeburn Track.
Other tramping tracks that start in the Glenorchy area are the Greenstone, Caples, Rees and Dart Valley walking tracks.
All beautiful and unique in their own right.

The township of Glenorchy boasts a myriad of accommodation places, an information centre,
Store, Restaurant an d Bar and various art and craft shops and a  wonderful board walk walkway.

If you want to get back to nature and spend some time unwinding in Paradise Glenorchy is certainly not to be missed!
